Cozumel Hotel Experience Comparison
Hotel B vs. Melia All-Inclusive Resort: A Travel Advisor's Perspective
When choosing between a boutique hotel and an all-inclusive resort, travelers often need to weigh personalized charm against comprehensive amenities. After reviewing both Hotel B and the Melia All-Inclusive Resort, it's clear that each caters to a different type of vacationer. Here’s a side-by-side comparison to help you decide which fits your travel style best.
Hotel B: The Boutique Charm
The Pros
First of all I am biased, I love the boutique “Hotel B” It is a small, quaint property that offers a personalized, intimate experience. Positioned on the edge of the water, in a prime snorkeling location the pool is close to the ocean which is alive with vibrant marine life. A huge plus for the water lovers out there, like myself. This hotel features a pool, hot tub, and complimentary bicycles for those looking to explore. Additionally, the rooms are thoughtfully maintained, with clean linens, complimentary toiletries, and cozy balconies where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets and passing cruise ships.

The property has a small restaurant with limited options, but breakfast is included not to mention varied and tasty. Though walking to Centro is possible, especially if you're in good physical shape, many travelers’s opt for a taxi or renting a Jeep to explore further beyond the cento / San Miguel area.

The Cons
The biggest con is that Hotel B is not an all-inclusive property, with the food and drink prices relatively high. When compared to an all-inclusive stay, the costs can add up quickly, making this option potentially more expensive. Additionally, the lack of a sandy beach may be a downside for those who prioritize beach lounging. There is a small man-made area with loungers, but it doesn’t compare to a full beach experience.
Despite these drawbacks, Hotel B’s chic ambiance and prime snorkeling location make it a great choice for those who value intimate stays and water activities.

Melia All-Inclusive Resort: The Classic Resort Experience
The Pros
The Melia All-Inclusive Resort provides a classic resort experience with the convenience of having meals and drinks all covered. The rooms are really comforting, complete with stocked refrigerators, quality toiletries, and ample amenities. As with most all-inclusive resorts, you’ll find various dining options, including specialty restaurants like the Fish House, which creates a mariner ambiance with its ship-inspired decor. I ate breakfast here on the last morning. They had the best iced coffee!!!

The stand out for me was the exceptional service. At Melia, they have friendly and attentive staff across the board, ensuring I had a relaxing and enjoyable experience from check in to room upgrades. Numerous activities listed weekly, so guests can choose between active engagement or lounging by the pool or on the beach, depending on their mood.

There was a sandy beach here with lots of beds, though reserve yours immediately when you arrive, they are taken fast. Otherwise there are plenty places to lounge. I was in a room with a balcony that faced the ocean. It was great lounging there.
Beautiful beach for sunbathing
The Cons
Melia is an older property, and some rooms show signs of age. The beach, while spacious, was not in its best state during the time of this visit, with murky waters and sargasso affecting the experience. It’s worth noting that this area isn’t ideal for snorkeling due to water conditions. Moreover, the resort is relatively far from Centro, requiring transportation arrangements for guests who wish to explore beyond the property.

Choosing the Right Fit for Your Trip
Ultimately, your decision between Hotel B and Melia All-Inclusive Resort depends on the type of vacation you envision. Hotel B offers a more intimate experience with direct access to some of the best snorkeling, perfect for travelers looking to spend their days exploring underwater life and enjoying serene sunsets. It suits those who appreciate boutique vibes and don’t mind trading a sandy beach for tranquil waters.
On the other hand, the Melia All-Inclusive Resort provides a hassle-free stay with an emphasis on comfort and convenience. With multiple dining options, activities, and inclusive amenities, this is ideal for those seeking a traditional resort experience with more structure and less worry about expenses while on the property.
As a travel advisor, I recommend assessing what matters most for your vacation—a small, scenic property with personalized touches and great snorkeling or an all-inclusive resort with more dining options and comprehensive amenities. Both properties have their strengths, and the choice ultimately depends on what you prioritize in your travels.
